Vance Eiden
Gender - Male
Race - Human
Alliance - Presently none, formerly the Banilance Otriad
Appearance - In his mid thirties, slightly withered face. Wears much more modern clothing, easily found in the slums of Mechea; jacket, pants, and armor made out of scrap metal.

When he was seven, Vance was found starving half to death, sitting by the outer-edge of the Mechean Anchorite's shield. His fists were bloody from trying to beat his way through the shield. He was found by a military foot-soldier, and was taken into the custody of the Military's Science Department. After months of research, the department discovered that he had a magnetism towards the Anchorites, he could locate their energy. Many years he was housed in a communal cell, where he befriended many, including Horrace Eiden(where Vance took his last name from).

Eidein was a former member of The Banilance Otriad, a resistance group that fought against the monarchy which ruled Mechea before it joined the Republic. Eiden taught Vance how to fight, how to strategize and prepared him and the others for their escape. One day, Eiden believed that the conditions were suitable to execute their break out. However, right before their escape was complete, they discovered that the escape was set up as a test by the Department to see if Vance had any other similarities with the Unkindness.

The tests turned out to be a failure, the others were slaughtered, and Vance was placed in isolation. After making several other attempts at breaking out, all failures, the Department placed him in maximum confinement. He had been imprisoned by the Department for eleven years by the day of the Unkindness attack that lead to his escape. Never explained what he is or why he is being held, the only thing Vance has been able to conclude through the experiments is that he has some connection with The Unkindness. His goal is to discover the truth about what he really is and the purpose behind that connection.

a)Very strong moral code, he is very black and white. He understands his ideals of right and wrong, and always follows through on them.
b)Very dedicated; once he begins a goal he always follows through on them
c)Feels very out of place, he doesn't know how to interact with people. He has severe trust issues, and slight paranoia.
d)Calculates, he's very strategic
e)Obsessed with the truth, and feels a lot of guilt when he does things wrong

Edmond Saiffier
Gender- Male
Race - Vauks
Alliance - None
Appearance - Fox-like in appearance and anatomy. Very steam punk, early Victorian style clothing. Wears a long over coat and copper/iron armor. He also has more Native American styled jewelry; earrings, etc. Has multiple tribal tattoos all over his fur

Born as Shiriki of the Vauks, a wolven tribe of people living in The Outer Lands. His people are extremely traditional, similar to the Amish, they live almost in recluse from the rest of the world. They have absolutely no form of technology, and very little contact with the Republic. In his youth, Shiriki fell in love with a female in his tribe, Kimimela . However, she was already promised to Hiamovi, the future chief of the village. After their affair was discovered, Shiriki challenged Hiamovi for her hand. Shiriki lost, Kimimela was put to death for her infidelity, and in his shame, Shiriki exiled himself from his homeland.

After fleeing his tribe, he took on the alias Edmond Saiffier, and became a smuggler, taking contraband back and forth between the Republic and the Empire.

a)Edmond has a very care free personality. He doesn't like conflict, and he avoids anything that is too complicated
b)He is the comic relief, he's very witty and sharp
c)Despite his casual demeanor, Edmond caries a deep reservoir of guilt over his past
d)Edmond loves technology and gadgets. He can't get enough of them
e)Edmond is the most morally grey character. Rather than having a set moral code like Vance or Eve, or being completely obedient like Noah, Edmond does whatever is easiest for him.
f)He also channels most of the badass-ness of the group.
g)Edmond is also a flirt, and extremely egotistical.

Watti Phon:
Gender - Female
Race - Aquenos
Alliance - Human Abolitionist and Rehabilitation Org.
Appearance - Female Aquenos, very fish-like. Wears very Indian/Middle Eastern-styled robes, very ornate with jews, and she wears a lot of jewelry.

A member of the Flight, an Aquenos Pro-Abolition movement, Watti inherited her father's slaves; Noah and his parents. After denying her offer for their freedom, Noah and his family stayed on as house servants for her. As a member of the social outcast, she has received a lot of hostility from her peers. One day, as Noah is being attacked by another Aquenos named Gimalek, Watti attempts to defend Noah. After Gimalek turns his aggression on Watti, she kills him protecting both herself and Noah. In doing so, she breaks one of the major laws of her own society; never kill another Aquenos, a crime punishable by death. Now, she and Noah must flee, and attempt to reach a safe haven in The Menagerie.

a)Watti is very motherly. She is extremely protective of Noah, and cares for him very deeply.
b)That protective side allows her ferocity to shine. She will stop anyone who tries to hurt him.
c)She is calm, resourceful, and highly intelligent. Her cunning is a big part of what keeps her and Noah safe.
d)She believes that freedom is a right that humans deserve, but they have to progress slowly into it, and learn how to support themselves.
e)Despite her very nurturing and caring nature, she is highly badass. Since military training is a mandatory part of Aquenos life, she is highly adapt at fighting.

Eve Avengard
Gender - Female
Race - Human
Alliance - Resistance Fighters(still needs a name)
Appearance - Caramel-ish black skin, tall and voluptuous, with long, bead-braided hair, very tribal. Clothing is a mix with very militarized clothing and steam punk fashion. She wears military cargo pants, with a Victorian corset/armor.

Eve's family were work slaves in the Aquenos Empire. She was the first child of four, forced to start working in the fields at the age of six. Between the brutalities she saw in the fields at the death of her third sibling, Michos, she was exposed very early to the harsh realities of life. At the age of fifteen, her father was bludgeoned to death for tripping over a slave driver. The driver thought her father was attacking him, and he was killed. Her mother died soon after, leaving Eve to care for her two remaining siblings.

At seventeen, the Resistance Fighters (not the actual name, still working on it) made an assault on the camp that her family was working on. They rescued the three of them, and Eve soon joined in their militia. After many successful missions, she moved up in the ranks of the militia to the equivalent of captain. During the day of the Unkindess attack, the mission she was on went wrong, and as a result, the Empire was able to find her cell's location. The Empire razed the base, captured Eve, and her siblings were sold to smugglers. When Eve wakes up, she escapes her captures, and resolves to go and save her family.

a)Extremely strong willed, and very stubborn. Once she has a mission, she doesn't stop until it's finished.
b)She is guarded emotionally, she only shows her vulnerable side to her siblings.
c)Very independent, doesn't enjoy working with partners.
d)She can take care of herself. She is never the damsel in distress, she can fight and handle herself extremely well.

Avalokrishnama - Avalo
Gender - Presumably male
Race - Plant race(really need help coming up with a name for this one)
Alliance - The Monastery of Bromhakarma
Appearance - His entire body, including his robes, is one single living, plant-like organism. His robes are created from the flower petals that bloom off of his body, and he body has the appearance of having no skin, his muscle fibers exposed as plant roots.

Avalo's growth is one of discovering his own emotions. His race is one of monks, and he has been living in the monastery ever since he was grown. The religion his race practices is very much like Buddhism and Hinduism, it revolves around the removal of the self to reach perfect connection with the planet. As a result, Avalo begins the game devoid of emotion. He doesn't understand human emotion or their nature. He acts solely based on the tenants of his faith and on logic. When his monastery is burned to the ground, he decides to seek out one of the other monasteries, logically joining Vance for his exceptional fighting skill and his common destination.

a)Devout in his religion. He is very detached from his emotions, and his actions are based solely on logic.
b)He is extremely curious. His logical nature forces him to question everything he is exposed to, he is very analytical.
c)Although he dislikes violence extremely, he is an exceptional fighter.

Noar di Phon
Gender - Male
Race - Human
Alliance - to Watti, she is his master
Appearance - Young teenage boy, Indian in feature and skin color. He is wearing clothing very similar to Watti, Hindu/Middle Eastern robes and jewelry.

Noah was born into a world of slavery, just like Eve. However, his family belonged to the servant class. They were owned by the Phon family. Spared from much of the brutality that was delivered to the field slaves, Noah was raised into a world of complacent servitude to a family that treated their slaves relatively well. Agbrum Phon, his original master and Watti's father, we one of the moderates of society, one who deemed slavery a necessary part of life that was fine as long as slaves were treated with human conditions. Because of this, Noah didn't feel the urge to rebel or seek freedom like Eve did. His parents raised him to be completely obedient to his masters, and loyal to them always. After Watti murders Gimalek, Watti flees into exile to escape the punishment for killing an Aquenos; death. To maintain their tradition as house servants, Noah's parents order him to follow Watti into his exile, and continue to serve him.

a)Enjoys his servitude, doesn't want to be free
b)Shy and timid, he's very quiet, and obediently follows orders
c)Has a fear of the future and the unknown
d)Believes in the good in people, and has faith in humanity. He is still naive in his youth.
e)Doesn't enjoy leading, doesn't handle control well.

Nasa and Dasra
Gender - Female twins
Race - Lemmerus, a rat-like species
Alliance - To each other
Appearance - Rat-like in appearance, furry, with long snouts. They are wearing a semi-circus style clothing, as they are con-artists. Their clothing is slightly ragged and worn as it is second-hand.

Plot: Still under development, but they are essentially run-aways. They were kidnapped from their litter during infancy by traffickers. However, after years of slavery, they managed to escape, and now work together as con-artists in The Menagerie.

a)Along with Edward, they are the comic relief that eases the more serious elements of the game.
b)They react to everything as a game, something mischievous that they can entertain themselves with. They like causing fun kinds of trouble.
c)Both are kind of space cadets, though in a lovable way, not an annoying one.
d)Beneath their lovable and mischievous nature, there is a massive reservoir of fear and guilt lying underneath them. While characters like Noah and Edward simply chose to avoid conflict to the best of their ability, Nasa and Dasra literally don't have the psychological capacity to handle it. If they can't turn a conflict into a game, they begin to breakdown emotionally and mentally.
e)Being each others' sole companion for so long, they act as one person. They don't know how to interact independently, and it is here that their personal development will stem from.

Possible tension between Eve and Noah about opinions on slavery? Also I'd really like to see Avalo begin the story very emotionless or at least very subdued, and become more open and intense as the story progresses. I'm also worried that the twins might end up being annoying.

I have a story to tell, and a question following it, to get a feel for how each character makes moral decisions:

A woman was near death from a special kind of cancer. There was one drug that the doctors thought might save her. It was a form of radium that a druggist in the same town had recently discovered. The drug was expensive to make, but the druggist was charging ten times what the drug cost him to produce. He paid $200 for the radium and charged $2,000 for a small dose of the drug. The sick woman's husband, Heinz, went to everyone he knew to borrow the money, but he could only get together about $1,000 which is half of what it cost. He told the druggist that his wife was dying and asked him to sell it cheaper or let him pay later. But the druggist said: "No, I discovered the drug and I'm going to make money from it." So Heinz got desperate and broke into the man's store to steal the drug for his wife.

Would each character say Heinz was justified or not, and what would be their reasoning?

Actually Chris, the biggest driving force of growth for Noah/Eve is the tension from their views on slavery, so yes, that'll definitely be a big part of the story. Jenna and I are currently working on Avalo's nature, but in a nutshell, that is how his arc progresses.

As per your question, I will list each character's response;

Vance - Yes, he is justified. While laws are created to protect the people who designed them, the system is usually broken. Natural law should be taken into more consideration than social law, and it is okay to save an innocent life by breaking one.

Eve - Yes, he is justified. When you have a goal, limitations aren't a consideration. Laws are created for those without the means to exist beyond said laws. If accomplishing your mission requires you to break those laws, then it is acceptable.

Avalo - No, he isn't justified. Laws are created to sustain a level of order within society. If people begin to disregard them, society falls into anarchy.

Watti - Yes, he is justified. One should do whatever they have to in order to protect the people that they love. Even though it against the law, if he hadn't stolen the medicine, his wife would be dead. By committing a lesser evil, he was able to save her life.

Noah - Uncertain. Noah's naivete from his age doesn't allow him to see the world in a concrete fashion. Allow he has concepts of right and wrong, and probably would say no due to the breaking of a law, he isn't secure in his choice.

Edmond - Yes, he is justified. Laws are obsolete. They define morality in a black and white system, in a world that exists upon moral ambiguity. You have to do what you need to in order to survive. Laws shouldn't determine how you live your life.

Nasa and Dasra - Yes, he is justified. Their inability to deal with emotionally strenuous situation results in their distortions of reality. They would consider this scenario as a game, and by getting the medicine, they would win.
